Jeff Brushie
January 1994
Snowmass, Colorado

There was some kind of contest going one, but Brushie was there with Neal Drake and a couple other guys. There was a pipe and then there was a natural bowl at the top. So I checked into a room right next to Brushie and Drake's room. I knew it was going to snow that night and I knew if we got snow we could get some good photos in the bowl. Brushie never gets up before noon. I thought if we got up early we could get up there before it got dog piled. Not only did I tell Brushie that was the plan, but that night I kept knocking on their door trying to make sure they didn’t stay up late partying.

The chairlift was right outside the hotel. At eight o'clock I banged on his door. He slept in his snow pants because he knew he couldn’t get up. Drake couldn’t get up, in fact, he stayed in bed. Brush and I got on the lift and rode up there. At five minutes to nine he hit that bowl with six inches of fresh snow and it became a spread photo in TWS. That same day Eric Wright had taken a picture of me taking the photo of Brushie and he put it in an issue of his 'zine Hardpipe before the photo even came out in TransWorld. I still remember Eric's caption, "Foster and Brushie: deadly combination."
