Petersome
Publication Launches Gentlemens' Snowboarder
4/1/99
by Lee Crane
Petersome Publications of San Clemente, California has announced
the arrival of Gentlemens' Snowboarder to their stable of
fine publications.
Rather
than focus on cutting edge action, the Gentlemens' Snowboarder
(or GS as the publishers are calling it) will allow elderly, sedentary
snowboarders who don't get out much to relive the good old days,
according to Publisher Doug Pataweewee. "The market is just getting
way too rad for our staff to keep up with," he says. "Why should
we try to keep up when we can just lay back and recycle our old
content. It's much more efficient that way."
Under the leadership of Jeff Ballbreath, ex-Snowboarder
magazine Editor at Large, the new magazine will feature old photos,
old stories, old tricks, and interviews with historically irrelevant
riders. "The magazine will be made up almost entirely of stories
about Mt. Baker and my times there as a young shredder," Ballbreath
says."And I'm going to try to work the word "Alder"
in as much as I can."
Aside from covering Mt. Baker, the magazine will also feature travel
stories from as far away as Southern Washington. "Sure, I've traveled
all over the state," Ballbreath says. "But I really see no reason
to leave the Bellingham area."
Gentlemens' Snowboarder's first issue features long-overdue
interviews with several Glacier, Washington residents, a 30,000
word history of the Mt. Baker Hard Core, as well as a personal essay
by the editor titled, "Why I'd Much Rather Be Alone in My Glacier
Cabin With a Lap-top, a Loaded Gun, and the complete works of Hunter
S. Thompson."
Copies of Gentlemens' Snowboarder will be available on newsstands
in Glacier, Washington on April 1, 1999.
