Board AID Recognizes Five Year
Sponsors
By Ryan Snyder (8-14-98)
Board AID for LIFEbeat is five years old and running strong. Each year
this charity event for HIV/AIDS awareness grows, gains further recognition
and attention. But without the sponsors, Board AID would have never got
off the ground.
For 1998, Board AID recognizes the following sponsors who have continually
supported this event throughout each of the five years: Airwalk, Burton,
Oakley, Warp Magazine, Wahoo's Fish Tacos, 91X, and KROQ. In honor of their
contributions, each of these sponsors has been presented with a special
plaque.
"Board AID is a great cause and it's fun to be able to give something
back to the snowboarding community," says Wing Lam, owner of Wahoo's
Fish Tacos. "Board AID stays true to snowboarding, which makes it
a good fit for Wahoo's and the alternative sport lifestyle."
Barry Dugan, team manager for Burton Snowboards adds, "Board AID
is important because it brings awareness about AIDS and the fight against
AIDS. "Snowboarding and skateboarding can serve as a positive way
to bring energy to this very special event. Burton believes contributing
to Board AID is the responsible thing to do."
Board AID for LIFEbeat USA, the original snowboarding, skateboarding,
and music benefit, has raised over 645,000 dollars to date, with the first-ever
Board AID Europe raising over 50,000 dollars. Board AID has stayed true
to its mission by continuing to grant money to HIV/AIDS organizations that
provide prevention education and/or direct services to adolescents infected
and affected with HIV/AIDS.
"Board AID is an important cause to stand behind," adds Kris
Bowers, Oakley's advertising director, "that's why we've continued
to stay involved."
Thanks again to Airwalk, Burton, Oakley, Warp Magazine, Wahoo's
Fish Tacos, 91X, and KROQ for continuing to support Board AID from the
beginning.
