Transworld Launches Surf Magazine

(Press release) Oceanside, California—December 1, 1998 TransWorld Media, publisher of the largest skateboarding and snowboarding magazines in the world, proudly announces the creation of a new surf magazine. TransWorld Surf will be the first surf magazine of it’s kind, focusing solely on the young, progressive surf movement. With the existing high quality surf magazines serving a significantly broader demographic, TransWorld intends to focus on its strength, which is reaching the teen readership. "For years we felt there just wasn’t room for another surf magazine," says Tim Wrisley, general manager of TransWorld Media. "But the sport of surfing is changing. There’s a new guard emerging in surfing; they’re young and progressive in their style both in the water and out and we plan to give them a voice."

The launch of this magazine marks a revolution in surfing with younger surfers moving toward more technical lip and air tricks, and TransWorld feels well-positioned to represent these surfers and give them a forum to express themselves. "Everything about this surf magazine will be unique," adds Wrisley. "From its wider format, to its progressive art direction and in-depth lifestyle focus, this mag will question all traditional surf magazine thinking."

TransWorld Surf will be in surf shops and on newsstands this spring and will be distributed by Curtis Distribution.
