Sundance Allows Snowboarding: Another Utah Resort Give In (4-16-97)

Snowboarding and wakeboarding in the same day? Only in California, and only at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort where there's plenty of snow and spring is in the air! The First Annual Alpine Meadows Nautique Gates & Wakes Fun Day, slated for Saturday, May 17, is for those interested in challenging their abilities on the snow and then on Lake Tahoe behind a Nautique ski or wakeboard boat. Skiing, snowboarding, water skiing, and wakeboarding are included in this friendly competition.

The first part of the event consists of skiing or snowboarding down a dual giant slalom course at the Kangaroo Race Arena at Alpine Meadows. After the on-snow portion of the fun. competitors head over to West Shore Cafe in Homewood for waterskiing and wakeboarding, where a BBQ lunch will be provided by West Shore Cafe. Once the multi-talented athletes finish the water events, an awards and raffle ceremony will be held featuring great prizes, including HO Skis, Revo Sunglasses, Wake-Tech Wakeboards, Neptune Wakeboards, and Straight Line Ropes.

Participants will also have the opportunity to try out the latest water ski and wakeboard equipment, provided by High Sierra Water Ski School, HO Skis, and Wake-Tech Wakeboards. In addition, the Nautique line of boats by Correct Craft will be available for test drives, including the new Air Nautique, designed especially for wakeboarding.

Registration for the Nautique/Alpine Meadows Gates & Wakes Fun Day will take place at Alpine Meadows on the day of the event starting at 8:00 AM with the on-snow race beginning at 9:30 AM; the second half of the event will take place at West Shore Cafe from 12.00 noon until 4:00 PM. All ages are welcome to sign up; scores will be handicapped based on the competitor's age.

Entry fee is $40 for adults and $35 for children ages 12 and under; entry fee includes an Alpine Meadows lift ticket, on-snow race, lunch at the West Shore Cafe, waterski or wakeboard competition, a Nautique water bottle, and raffle tickets. Those who register in advance by May 9 will receive an event T-shirt at no charge (a $10 value).

The Nautique/Alpine Meadows Gates and Wakes Fun Day is presented by West Coast Correct Craft and is made possible by Larson Marine, Hammer's Ski and Marine, Central Valley Marine, and the West Shore Cafe.
