Trippin' In New Zealand (10-28-96) Winter Comes Early to Utah: Park City Opens to Snowboarders (10-25-96) |
| (Nov. 2, 1997 - Waterville Valley, NH) -- After just two days of continuous
snowmaking at its 4,000 foot elevation, Waterville Valley Ski Resort opened
today, winning the race to be the first ski area open in New Hampshire. One
trail was available to skiers on the High Country section of the mountain.
Waterville Valley's opening beats their previous record of Nov. 6 as their earliest opening on record, set last season. Helping get the resort open were the 100 new snowguns added to the snowmaking arsenal this year. This bolsters the $1.25 million invested in the snowmaking system last year. Round the clock snowmaking will continue as temperatures permit, with the goal of opening a trail top-to-bottom. Early season skiers and riders take the newly-shortened White Peak Express Quad to the High Country double chair, then ride that chair to the Scramble trail for intermediate and advanced terrain. Lift tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for teens and students, and $15 for children 6-12. Hours of operation are 8:00 am- 3:45pm weekends and holidays, and 9:00am - 3:45pm midweek. Waterville Valley is located off exit 28 of Interstate 93, just two hours from Boston, MA.
