The SOL Groove Vol. 1 Num. 10
(March 11, 1997)

We Left Las Vegas With A Quarter

Spring Isn't Here Yet!

Welcome to our tenth Groove. This edition of the Groove is special because we have something to celebrate--we survived yet another year at Vegas. For five solid days we were bogged down in aisle after aisle of snowboard gear, too much hand slapping and 'wassup?' and on top of that, gambling and partying until the sun came up.

But now we are back in our respective cyber offices for the moment hammering out stories from the last few weeks. We desperately tried to share all of the people and places that we've been at for the last few weeks with you diligent SOL regulars, but sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day to keep up with the immediacy of the internet.

SIA SHOW STUFF
For those who've heard about the SIA show in Vegas, but have never been there, this is your chance to taste the action in color with pictures from the show and the parties that took place after the doors closed. Proceed with caution here and remember we were just reporting the facts, and one picture is often worth more than a thousand words (or however that saying goes).

AST NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Over the next week SOL will be at Mt. Snow, Vermont for the AST North American Championships where Lee Crane will once again represent the voice of snowboarders across America as he reports on the contest for ESPN.

While Lee Crane covers the East, Shanti Sosienski will be in Bro Cal at Bear Mountain covering one of the largest snowboarding musicals of the year, Board AID 4. If she's lucky she'll weasel her way into interviewing some of the big name bands like A Tribe Called Quest. If not, you'll have to settle for a lot of quotes from pros about why they are at Board AID.

WHAT'S UP
If you haven't already seen our coverage from the Vans World Cup Championships we've got pictures of a victorious Terje spraying second place Todd Richards with champagne, as well as duel slalom coverage, GS, and big air. Also listen to our sound bites from pros like Frank Wells, as they give us the play-by-play on important issues at the event like the state of the halfpipe.

SUSANNA HOWE'S BREAKFAST WITH JAKE BURTON
This week SOL will be kicking down yet another column from our displaced New Yorker Susanna Howe affectionately titled, "Breakfast With Jake." Seems she got to start the day with the owner and president of the largest snowboard company in the world, and now she's shares the details.

BACKCOUNTRY LEADERSHIP
Ever head out to the backcountry without a plan? Sure you have, we all have. But before you head OUT OF BOUNDS again, take a look at what backcountry expert Terri Rengstorff says about leadership in the backcountry and how it can make or break a sketchy situation.

Well, that's about all for this edition of The Groove. Tune in next time as we update you on our next expedition out into the ever growing wide world of snowboarding.

If, in some bout of insanity, you decide you don't want the SOL | Groove anymore please point your browser to this URL: http://www.snowboarding-online.com/register/unsub.cfm
