Comments: In a premier showing at the La Paloma Theater in Encinitas, California, snowboard-video producer Jamie "Mouse" Mosberg invited an exclusive crowd of pros and snowboard-industry types to help him finish his new boarding flick The Golden Circle.
The film's theme is based around the idea of an awards ceremony, with each section showing different riders competing in, and winning, a Golden Circle award--an Oscar-like golden trophy holding a snowboard with a circle revolving around it.
Mouse filmed two segments of the film at the premier showing. First he shot the crowd outside the theater, waiting to get in to the show. Once the crowd filled in, he then set up numerous shots with the main riders from the film standing up and walking to a podium at the front of the theater as if their name had been announced to win a certain category.
Lucky winners included Trevor Andrew, Chris Brown, Neil Goss, Nicolas Droz, Lance Pitman, and Andrew Crawford, who all played their parts well, while the crowd cheered in the background and cameras rolled.
Once the filming was done, all the attendees were treated to an advanced screening of the video. With different sections where awards were to be given, including Foreign Film, Freeriding, Backcountry Freestyle, Freestyle Park, All-Mountain, and Best Trick, the film showed the riders in locations such as Chamonix, Oregon, Tahoe, British Columbia, Colorado, and even the Olympics in Nagano. Each section picked up tempo and built anticipation through the 30-minute feature.
Thanks to the El Nino-inspired winter, the film was loaded with plenty of deep powder, sick steeps, and backcountry snowmobiling that would get any summer-softened boarder inspired to ride again. The sound track matched the moods of the movie with thumping tunes that ranged from the Pixies to the Propellerheads.
The winners? Check out The Golden Circle and you might just find out.
