Part Of Four-Year Agreement For American Skiing Company Resorts to Host
Signature Winter Sports Event
Mount Snow, Vermont (May 10, 1999) -- Mount Snow, an American Skiing
Company resort (NYSE: SKI), will host the fourth annual Winter X Games,
February 3 through February 6, 2000, as announced today by ESPN’s Jeff
Ruhe, senior vice president, event management, and Chuck Steedman, vice
president of partnership marketing, of the American Skiing Company.
Mount Snow will also host the 2001 Winter X Games as part of a four-year
agreement that will see the Winter X Games take place exclusively at
American Skiing Company resorts.
The Winter X Games, the signature winter alternative sports
championship, features world-class athletic talents of more than 200
international athletes competing in snowboarding, snowmobile snocross,
freeskiing and snow mountain bike racing.
"ESPN has raised the bar with every X Games-branded event that we have
presented, and the 2000 Winter X Games will be no exception," said
Ruhe. "Mount Snow and American Skiing Company are proven leaders in
event management and marketing, and our four-year partnership will
provide mutually beneficial opportunities at every American Skiing
resort for us to grow this tremendous franchise."
The Winter X Games will be televised from February 4 through February 8
exclusively on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC with 18.5 original hours of
programming. The Games are telecast to an audience of more than 20
million viewers in the US and millions more in a network that spans 180
countries and territories worldwide. Mount Snow will remain open to all
guests during the Games; they will not interfere with regular daily
operation for skiing and riding.
"Our location combined with the amenities of the Mount Snow Valley gives
us far greater potential for spectators than the Winter X Games has ever
seen," said Scott Pierpont, Mount Snow’s Managing Director. "We look
forward to the opportunity to introduce fans and athletes from around
the world to Mount Snow and to the state of Vermont."
Mount Snow is a leader in the alpine cultural movement. It is home of
the East’s first snowboard park, the East’s first sponsored freeski team
and the East’s first major freeski competition. The resort has hosted
and produced numerous televised events, including the NORBA National
Championship Mountain Bike Series, the Bud Light Boarder Battle, the
Swatch Boardercross World Tour and the Northeast Snocross Snowmobile
Championships. Mount Snow is Vermont’s closest big mountain to the
East’s major metropolitan areas - located just four hours from New York
City and 2.5 hours from Boston - and features five separate mountain
faces with 135 trails, 26 lifts, 12 tree terrain areas, five terrain
