Park City Opens Payday Halfpipe January 10, 2000
Park City, Utah - Attention all jibbers - Park City Mountain Resort's (PCMR) PayDay halfpipe is now open! Following days of snow and temperatures cold enough to manufacture snow, PCMR's snowboard operations crew put the final touches on the competition-specific halfpipe this weekend, allowing for the 'pipe's opening today. "The size, width, length and amount of vertical on each side of the 'pipe are in line with snowboard competition regulations," said Jeff Boliba, marketing manager at PCMR.
PCMR's PayDay halfpipe is approximately 350 feet long, 11 feet high and 40 feet (from vert to vert) wide. Events scheduled to be held at the PayDay halfpipe this season include night 'pipe jams every Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. starting Jan. 14, and the King of the Wasatch event series on March 11 - PCMR's signature non-sanctioned halfpipe competition open to all ages.
Riders from around the globe converge on PCMR for the second annual "Countdown to Gold," a Nokia FIS Snowboard World Cup event, scheduled for March 3 - 5, 2000. This international competition will be held in the Eagle Race Arena, where another halfpipe will be built specifically for the event and where all snowboarding events of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games are scheduled to be held. "Countdown to Gold" events include boardercross, halfpipe and giant slalom competitions.
