Terrain Drain Trip Review
Jackson Hole
Overall impression of the riding: The first day I was there, I experienced the worst snow conditions of my life, the last day I experienced what was possibly the best snow conditions of my life (can't get much better than knee deep pow). Jackson is steep as hell, probably the steepest stuff ive ever seen accessible by chairlift. Because it's so steep, it's hard to groom so expect moguls, especially if it hasn't snowed in a while. They hurt the legs. When it snows, the people come out of the woodwork and crowd the lift lines like crazy. These are the same people that track the whole place out by 10 o'clock. I found that the best snow was in the trees. There are tons of cliffs to drop but not many jumps to hit. It's definately more for the big mountain types than the freestyle types (that's why Squaw is still #1 in my book) and it's mostly skiers. There are a lot of traverses that aren't snowboarder-friendly. The park/pipe guys are cockmasters, well at least the one i talked to was. The park (with it's one jump)was closed 3 of the 4 days i was there due to "maintenence" but they didn't even change anything. The pipe had no tranny and in the Big Air contest, they only let us hit the jump twice and then they closed it off, it was dumb. Overall though it was sick, the terrain is great, the snow is even better, the people are cool and friendly, and if there was no Squaw Valley, it would be the best in the U.S.
