FOO FIGHTERS - THE COLOUR AND THE SHAPE The sophomore effort from the Foo Fighters is actually the first release from the band as a whole (the first album was all done by Dave Grohl). The songs on illuminate an elliptical tale about dealing with loss beginning with the understated and tender "Doll", then changing gears to wail out the scorching anger of "Monkey Wrench". The succeeding tracks follow a similarly oscillating momentum between revved up aggression and delicate sensitivity. Particularly wrenching is "February Stars" in which Grohl plaintively sakes, "Even though I watched you come and go / How was I to know you'd steal the show?" Part rant, part tribute to the late Cobain perhaps, the Foo Fighters have, with this album, achieved closure to top off their success. |
