Press Release April 19, 1998 BOARDING FOR BREAST CANCER CRUSHES FUND RAISING GOAL AND IGNORANCE ABOUT BREAST CANCER Boarding For Breast Cancer (BBC), the national organization dedicated to increasing breast cancer awareness among American youth, celebrated it's third annual music / snowboarding benefit festival on April 18, 1998 at Sierra At Tahoe Resort, CA. This year, Boarding For Breast Cancer's fund raising efforts exceeded $112,000. Over the past three years Boarding For Breast Cancer has raised over $237,000 for the cause. All proceeds have been donated to The Breast Cancer Fund and The Susan G. Komen Foundation, both national non-profit organizations that raise awareness and funding for cutting edge projects and research programs. Over 4,000 people attended the third annual festival. Celebrity event host Kennedy from MTV kept the huge crowd entertained in between live performances by the Foo Fighters, Moby, Royal Crown Revue, and Supersuckers. Guest speakers Geralyn Lucas, a 30 year old breast cancer survivor, and Andrea Martin, founder of The Breast Cancer Fund, were available on-site at an awareness pavilion. Other event highlights included halfpipe and big air exhibitions by top professional snowboarders including Olympic bronze medalist Shannon Dunn, Tina Basich, and Michelle Taggart. Top pros in halfpipe were Jon Kramer (Generics/Blax) and Meg Pugh (Smith, DaKine). In the big air top pros were Cameron Beck (Elan) and Tina Basich (Sims). Top amateur men and women in halfpipe were Dustin Singler (Palmer) and Melanie Armantrout (Morrow). In 1998, Boarding For Breast Cancer awareness efforts have included coverage on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and MTV, as well as a broad reaching print ad campaign in publications such as Elle, Jump, McCalls, Living Fit, Mamm, Vice, Transworld Snowboarding, Snowboard Life, Warp, Blunt, Electric Ink, and Snoboard. 1998 also marked the launch of BBC's Web site (twsnow.com/bbc.html) through a partnership with Transworld's twsnow.com. On site media included Lifetime TV, Teen, Blue, dozens of regional newspapers, radio, and TV and all the snowboard industry publications.
