It's two, two, two Super-G's in one day. And, no, it was not because the snow was so good. It's just the way the event's organizers planned it. That meant two winners and twice the number of losers.

Warm temperatures turned the course to slush early on in the day and riders had to plow their way through it. There were other hazards as well. In one place, skiers were allowed to traverse the course between runs creating a large speed bump directly in the middle of the transition from the steep section of the course to the forested glad. "I didn't even notice it really," said Adam Hostetter. "I just focused on carrying speed through that section."

In the first race, Michele Taggart of Salem, Oregon edged fellow American Betsy Shaw of Manchester, Vermont for the win. In the second Super G competition it was Shaw who out-raced Taggart for the victory. Leslee Olson of Bend, Oregon finished third in both competitions.

In the men's competition, 1995 North American Alpine Champion Mark Fawcett of New Brunswick, Canada took the number one position, while Adam Hostetter of Tahoe City, California took second. Hostetter rebounded in the second Super G to take first by beating Canadian Jasey J. Anderson. Jeremy Jones of Sugarloaf, Vermont took 5th and 3rd finishes for the day.

It was the slush that pulled Mark away from a second appearance on the podium "It was one of those courses where you have to stay online," said Mark Fawcett. "If you get off into the slop it pulls you to a complete stop. And that's exactly what happened in my second run."
