Madonna di Campiglio (Italy). With an exciting mens� Giant Slalom competition the fourth FIS Snowboard World Championships were kicked of at Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, today. Jasey Jay Anderson from Canada won his first-ever FIS World Championship gold.

The conditions have been excellent today on the FIS 3 Tre slope with continuous sunshine and temperatures around minus two degress and the riders obviously had fun racing. Jasey Jay Anderson has been the first at the start for the first run and really liked that � "I could not have hoped for a better start position," the Canadian had said prior to the race."

Italy�s Walter Feichter was the one to beat im in that first run by only 25 hundrets of a second but Anderson really smoked the course in the second run and despite a little mistake in the top section he claimed the gold finally. "The top section was my best by far," Anderson said, "I definitely let it run and had some really good turns. After that mistake it wasn�t that good but I was on it still. It was a clean run � not as good as I wanted but still good enough. I kind of knew that I was going to get it � for some reason I had that good feeling so it�s a big release. It has been a long trip and I had some good victories on the way but I haven�t been doing as good as I wanted in GS. My goal was to win here so I can�t believe I just accomplished my goal... I had tremendous support right before my run � people were saying �go get it Jasey, you can do it� � everyone was backing me up and this feels damn good. The biggest thing is just the support from the other athletes, that�s why you like to improve yourself too. I just love this hill and the course conditions."

Slovenian rider Dejan Kosir, fourth after the first run, still improved his riding in the second run and went in second place overall. "That�s great," he said, "overwhelmed, "I really attacked with my heart in the second run and had some risky moments but I got to pull it together. I learned a lot from some World Cups where I let it run first and then screwed up so I really didn�t want to repeat that..."

Walter Feichter from Italy was leading after the second run and claimed third place finally after a mistake in the second run. "After that fault I lost some speed," he explained, "and then made another mistake further down. I tried my best to pick it up again but just could not make up the time. This happened to me before: my first runs are pretty strong but maybe I feel too much pressure then in the second. However, I�m fine with third place."

Defending GS World Champion Markus Ebner has been in 11th place after the first run and had the fastest time in the second but finally ended up fourth place. "The Giant Slalom has not been my discipline this season at all," he said, "so fourth is fine since this is my best result so far this season. For sure it would have been nice to make it to the podium since fourth is always something special but considering I was that far behind in the first run I didn�t even expect to get that far in front anymore... My favorite disciplines are still to come so we�ll see."
