SOL | One Step Beyond: 1998's Best Step-In Bindings (Rossignol)

Rossignol Step-In Review:
by Mark North
Rossignol's new step-in system utilizes a traditional external highback and a flexible, lightweight boot (you'll also see the same system marketed under the Original Sin label).
The FS SIS boot ($249) attaches to the binding via a small peg on each side of the sole; otherwise, this is a boot you could ride with traditional bindings. A Velcro ankle strap, stiff liner, and removable stiff tongue-insert add support. At heel and toe, the sole rides in direct contact with the surface of the board. Locked in and ready to ride, it feels like there's some side-to-side play, but some riders prefer that.
Unlike most step-in bindings, the FS SIS 360 ($159) allows for entry from any angle; heel-first, toe-first, side-to-side, or straight-down. The external highback provides good ol' rock-solid forward lean that feels more solid than most internal highbacks featured in other step-in systems.
The FS SIS setup is lighter than traditional bindings, and might be the lightest step-in system available.
