| PLAY: Snow (yes, that's her real name) Petersen, North American
Extreme Champion and Vail resident, has signed up to represent Avalanche
as a primary team rider. "To connect with Snow the way we did is really a
fantasy that became reality," says Bev Sanders, VP of Marketing. "We're having
riders come to us. The team we're building isn't a team that's concerned
with money or fame, they just want a board that won't fail them. I respect
Snow and the rest of our riders for that."
REWIND: The relationship began back in March, while Snow was working
at a retail shop in Denver. "I'd always wanted to try an Avalanche board,
so when I met the rep, I asked him for a couple of demos," recounts Snow.
"I'd been riding for another company, but the board I had wasn't working
out. I tried the Avalanche Special 149 first, but I knew the Sanders 148
would be perfect, so I saved it for last. I was right, it was perfect."
PLAY: The next thing Snow did was take her demo board on the road
to the North American Extreme Championships. After paying her own entry fees
and travel expenses, she then took first place in the women's division. Upon
returning home Snow called Bev to share the news.
REWIND: "When I called and told Bev I won there was a silent pause.
She finally said, 'You did,' I said, 'Yeah, I did and need this board.' I
think she was blown away."
"I've faced so many obstacles with this women's specific board," says Bev,
"Very few retailers believe women need this type of board. To hear Snow won
made feel like, 'Yes, it worked!' The next day I sent product, and it evolved
from there."
FAST FORWARD: After her win, Snow received attention from several
companies but held out, hoping to sign a contract with Avalanche. "I really
didn't know what was going to happen, but I knew I wanted to work with them.
Despite the generous offers I received, I waited for Avalanche. I'm starting
to get excited now that it's final!" |
