Mammoth Mountain Fires Up the Lifts
|
SOL Live at Snow Summit (11-2-96) Switch Parties In San Francisco (10-18-96) |
Thanks to three feet of natural snow that fell in one 24 hour period last week and a network of snowblowers, Mammoth Mountain opened for snowboarding (and skiing) on Friday November 8, 1996. SOL was not there to record the moment. Sure, we wanted to be on the first chair, but no. We had to stay home and work. But not this weekend. We're loading up the car and getting ready to make the six hour charge up the eastern slope of the Sierra with the rest of Southern California's hardcore to get in on opening weekend. Currently, Mammoth has a three to four foot base where they've blown snow and a one to two foot base where only natural snow fell. Wind and weather permitting Mammoth hopes to run Chairs 1, 2, 3, 11, and Gondola's 1 and 2, which means the top of the mountain is open. Uh huh. Early season ticket prices mean it only cost $35 a day. This prices will remain in effect until November 25. Stay tuned to Live Remote for coverage of our trip up US 395: Highway To Heaven. Check the rest of the Mammoth scene.
