Warren, VT. On Sunday November 3, 1996 Travis Blodgett decided not to stay home and watch football. Wise choice! With three inches of new snow, and a boat load of man-made, Sugarbush Resort opened for the season.

Riders dominated on opening day with a nine-to-one ration of riders to skiers. The Burlington posse was in attendance, ripping up the single slope atop Sugarbush South. Snow quality was excellent and small pockets of pow, though sparse, could be found. Seth Miller, the new Nale rock star, was on site along with Mike Montanaro, Ryan Lang, and Joah Buley from Burton. Geoff Rader showed with shinny Rossi boards and way-too-clean Stryke clothes. Left coaster Jay Diran, whose been lurking at Sean O'brien's for the last month, hit the snow to represent for other side. Even the corporate types showed up. As, Burton marketing guru David Schriber came out for an early season session.

Sugarbush locals watched the stars, and joined in too, hitting a kicker built next to the trees. Local Travis Blodgett threw a few flips in for lurkers too. So many took it, the landing eventually turned to dirt. However, with temperatures cold enough to blow snow throughout the day, the snowmaking force should be able to recover the patch in no time.

The Bush plans to remain open as long as weather permits.
