CHANTAL KREVIAZUK - Under These Rocks And Stones
(Columbia)
Release Date: 3/6/97
Review: Angel Bennett
(July 31, 1997)

Another young Canadian has delivered quite a fresh debut, but unlike the grating, nasal rantings of Ms. Morrisette, Kreviazuk's songs are so packed full of sincere emotion and clarity that one might at first mistake it for Christian Rock?!! "Under These Rocks and Stones" calls to mind Rickie Lee Jones, or maybe even Joan Osborne. With the success of this year's Lillith Fair, it's obvious that sound of a female singer/songwriter is more popular than ever. Perhaps there is even an overload of such artists. Luckily, Kreviazuk's crystalline voice refuses to be lost in the din. On the thoughtful, yet pop-ish "Surrounded" she sings; "don't you lose sight of me now." After hearing her album there's no way you'd want to lose sight of her. She's definitely one to watch.
