A LIFE LESS ORDINARY - Soundtrack
(Interstate/London)
Release Date: 10/21/97
Review: Angel Bennett
(October 28, 1997)

From the creators of Trainspotting (a great movie and an equally impressive soundtrack) comes another movie/soundtrack package, only this time there is less of a equilibrium between the two products. The movie has its moments, but the soundtrack is the real winner. Trainspotting alumni, Folk Implosion and Underworld, are joined by a who's who of modern rock; Beck, Luscious Jackson, Sneaker Pimps, and so on. With this many stellar artists contributing original music, an excellent compilation is guaranteed. In addition to the many alt.rock chart blazers, there are even nuggets of classic crooning with Elvis Presley's version of "Always On My Mind," Bobby Darin's "Beyond the Sea" and the Squirrel Nut Zippers plunger-horned "Put A Lid On It" which is so retro you could almost mistake it for the real thing. Other standouts include the invigorating title track by Ash, The Cardigans' "It's War," and Faithless' softly plaintive "Don't Leave." Modern love never sounded so good.
