Seattle's Super Sonic Soul Pimps have a not-so-new album out called
"Albino." It was released in July. Why we didn't get the album sooner has
to do with the fact that the band claims wired status but can't return
e-mail.
About a year and a half ago I e-mailed them ([email protected]), but got no
response. Then this week a hand written envelope arrives in the SOL
mailbox. It contained the new CD and a stack of reviews from magazines
like High Times, The Rocket, and Guitar World.
Seems like everyone has their ideas about what 3SP sounds like. Some
mention Devo, George Clinton, Frank Zappa, and "early Chili Peppers."
Okay, fine, but after rolling through Albino I heard hints of Billy Joel,
Queen, and They Might Be Giants. But who cares about comparisons. With
Albino, 3SP has evolved. Their music has climbed above the space alien
orgazmatronic facade they've erected and plays on it's own. In these days
of retro-ska monotony, 3SP is a welcome relief. Albino is a large, lush,
funky, sonic adventure that will make you smile, especially with falsetto
lines like "Let's go camping, ba-aye-by."
More importantly the liner notes thank snow industry players like Kris
Jamieson, Fuel's Shane Gould, and Paul Ferrel at Lib Tech so 3SP must be
down, right? Oh, and be sure to listen all the way to Song 13 for an
added little humor bonus.
