(Warning: This CD review contains unabashed, ecstatic gushing.) From start to finish this album is a complete masterpiece. A year and a half ago, The Elevator Drops' debut, "Pop Bus" showed enormous potential. With the release of "People Movers" they have arrived (Oh god, it's soooo good!) Every one of the seventeen tracks is instantly likable (like a good pop song should be, damn it!) More importantly they add enough layered chaos and intensity to ensure that each song is more than a mere pop morsel; these tunes are classic! The ultra cool first track, "Sentimental Love" barrows the feel of disco-era Blondie, yet feels one hundred percent modern and the high kick of "Coke & Amphetamines" is almost as invigorating as the real thing. There are hints (in the music and even in the song titles) of all the most fantastic influences: Jellyfish, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, and even 70s-era Rod Stewart, but the sound as a whole is fresh and original. Several of the songs including "$7 Single," "Starlight" and "Rats" incorporate string arrangements. Don't be left behind, run and buy People Movers now!
