Comments: In Scrapbook, Jon Boyer's first solo project since leaving Fat World
Productions, he proves that he may be one of snowboarding's best
cinematographers. Scrapbook is filled with epic images, great snow, and
solid riding--especially from Randy Gaetano.
The video is a Scrapbook in every sense of the word. It is a collection
of individual parts with no beginning, middle, or end. Canadian power
runs are mixed in with footage from Mt. Hood, the Westbeach Classic,
snowmobiling with Derek Heidt, and drinking games with the Japanese in
the rat. I wished there was a little more of a pace to the film, but Jon
was quick to point out that it was designed to feel like that. "That's
why it's called Scrapbook," he says. Thankfully, the pieces in Scrapbook
are good. It may go on a little too long, but what's really wrong with
too much of a good thing.
Scrapbook is a great first effort and I'm confident that we can expect
more great things from Jon in the future. Like he says, "Just wait until
I get a real budget."
