Boreal First Resort Open

By Press Release

October 14, 2000

Donner Summit, CA...Boreal Mountain Resort opened its lift Wednesday making Boreal the first resort open in the nation for the 2000/2001 winter ski/board season! This is the earliest opening on record for Boreal Mountain Resort breaking its prior earliest opening of October 17, back in the 80s.

Boreals aggressive snowmaking team has been busily making snow during the wee-hours of October 11 and it has continued to snow throughout the day. This landed the perfect opportunity to break Boreals record and get this season started, even if it was for a limited time. Boreals phones have been ringing off the hook with anxious skiers and boarders chomping at the bit to get on the mountain and get a taste of winter in October.

We have to take advantage of Mother Natures generosity. She dropped a significant amount of snow on Monday night (8-12 inches) and combined with our snowmaking, Boreal is ready for the season, said Mike Hinrichs, Boreal General Manager.

According to Director of Sales and Marketing Jody Churich, snowboarders outnumber skiers the first few days by a ten-to-one ratio.

Operations are on a day-to-day basis, conditions permitting. We are being very realistic with the fact that conditions may be temporary and our operation is subject to change tomorrow, but making history is worth rolling the lifts for, says Churich.
