Malibu, CA, April 1, 1997 --The USASA National Championships, the largest snowboarding competition in the world, will be televised for the first time in a half-hour ESPN production airing on espn2, Thursday April 3 at 10 p.m. PST (same air time on the East Coast is Friday April 4, 1 am EST). Over 600 competitors ranging in ages from five to seventy years old converged on Big Bear Lake, CA in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California March 27-30, 1997 to compete for coveted national championship titles in each of four snowboarding disciplines (halfpipe, giant slalom, slalom and slopestyle) and combined performances for overall results. The national championships are held at the culmination of the season's 250 events from across the 27 regions of the USASA. The United States Amateur Snowboarding Association (USASA) was founded in 1988 as a not-for-profit corporation to support responsible growth and development of amateur snowboarding, through competition, while maintaining the fun and unique character of this new sport. LXD, Inc., leaders in sports marketing and event production, captured this exciting event for ESPN, the worldwide leader in sport's television, in conjunction with Dynocomm Sports. LXD, Inc's Jeff Grell acted as event director pulling together the logistics and volunteer efforts of the USASA to contribute to the success of this unique event. |
