USSA Teams Up With Downtown Malls

By Press Release

July 6, 2000

SALT LAKE CITY -- Park City-based U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA), parent of the U.S. Snowboard Teams, and The Downtown Malls, Crossroads Plaza, and ZCMI Center Mall, announced today the formation of a joint marketing alliance through the year 2003. This alliance will enable The Downtown Malls to utilize the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team marks and imagery to promote and market its properties. USSA will have the opportunity to sell its licensed products throughout The Downtown Malls. Proceeds from this licensed merchandise will benefit the U.S. Ski Team and Snowboard Teams.

The Downtown Malls offer the U.S. Team brand and athlete exposure via its central downtown location, 230 merchants and 10 million annual visitors. Although the U.S. Team Headquarters is located in Park City, Utah, officials hope to elevate awareness and local notoriety by designating The Downtown Malls as "The Official Downtown Home of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams."

"We are excited to be working with the U.S. Ski Team and are committed to producing greater exposure for the U.S. Ski Team athletes and promoting the winter sports of skiing and snowboarding," said David Neilson, general manager for Crossroads Plaza. "The Downtown Malls, At the Center of Everything, offers a great platform to expand our hometown support for the U.S. Ski Team and our 2002 athletes."

"The Downtown Malls offer a venue that is just steps from the Salt Palace and Temple Square where many people converge on any given day," explained David Johnston, licensing manager for the U.S. Ski Team. "We saw the opportunity to partner with The Downtown Malls as a means to leverage our organizations to attract additional sponsorship and fundraising opportunities, which is an ongoing need for all non profit organizations."

About The Downtown Malls Crossroads Plaza (est. in 1980) and ZCMI Center Mall (est. in 1974) recently combined marketing efforts to strengthen exposure in the community through a joint advertising/public relations campaign. Together, the Downtown Malls offer shoppers 230 merchants, making it the largest shopping locale in Salt Lake City in a two-block area. The Malls are located directly across from Temple Square, Utah's number one tourist attraction, and border the TRAX City Center stop, in the heart of downtown.

About USSA The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, the parent of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams, is the national governing body for Olympic skiing and snowboarding, managing competition and athletic programs coast to-coast. The vision of USSA is to make the USA the best in world in skiing and snowboarding, providing development and elite racing programs. The federation was founded in 1904 and the national office has been based in Utah since 1974.
