Scrapbook -Past Events April
19, 1997 Boarding for Breast Cancer has established
itself as a youth-focused snowboarding and music festival aimed at raising
awareness and money towards the fight against breast cancer. Top riders
like Jeff Curtes, Tina Basich, Michele Taggart, and Wendy Powell will
be on-site to support the cause and participate in the pro half-pipe and
big-air exhibitions. This year's event will also include an amateur jam
session and product giveaway. Shenandoah Sampson flips over a mountain
bike he won last year. When
Monica Stewart of Bonfire Snowboard Clothing was diagnosed with Breast
Cancer at the age of 26, a distant threat suddenly became a devistating
reality. As part of her healing, Monica committed herself to doing something
to raise awareness, build support and find a cure. Among the many friends
who supported Monica's cause, Twist Snowboard Clothing, WIG Magazine,
and Fuse Sports and Marketing worked to create Boarding for Breast Cancer
to benefit The Breast Cancer Fund, a national non-profit organization.
Boarding for Breast Cancer's 1997 fund raising goal is $100,000 which
depends on sponsor donations, ticket sales, raffle and auction, volunteer
help, and donations.
