Sunday River Flows

Sunday River Opens Earliest Ever (10-4-96)
Today Maine's Sunday River Resort became the second area in the U. S. to open their slopes for the 96-97 riding season.

Sunshine and fifty degree temperatures warmed the day and softened the snow. About 75 riders and skiers came out for the day. There was almost a 2 to 1 ratio of riders to skiers taking advantage of the October snow day. One local rider said, "I've been waiting for this day for so long, I can't tell you."

A small kicker in the middle of the trail with a rock gap was the focus of many riders attention. Jason Weir, Jamie Mcloud, Mark Sullivan, Pat Bridges, and others strutted their early season prowess. When the landing wore out the riders turned their focus to an outcrop of rock further down the slope. The first informal jib session of the year unfolded, as riders grinded on the hard stuff.

Sunday River will continue to make snow as weather permits, and increase snow coverage as rapidly as possible.
