PR: Burton's '98 Line of Bindings

SIA Snow Show and On Snow Demo (Undercover!) (1-19-24-97)
Airwalk and Burton Step Out of Step-In Market For Another Year (10-15-96)

Today, the top riders of the world are nearly all on Burton bindings, because they offer the highest level of performance, convenience, variety and dependability.

The '98 Burton binding line continues the tradition with some non-traditional ideas. Carbon-fiber has strongly taken hold in the X Bindings--no longer is it viewed as an exotic material. After years of cutting away and shopping down, full hi-backs have returned, and the new Burton Skybacks are higher, stiffer, and equipped with more forward lean options than ever before. Check them out on the '98 Custom Freestyle Bindings. And just when you thought straps were comfortable enough, Burton has released the new super-cushy BoneOut strap (known as the Nerf-strap around Burton) on the new Freestyle Binding.

Anatomical considerations have always been important to Burton and, as a result, Burton lead the movement towards left and right dedicated baseplates, size bindings with sized hi-backs, and the now-famous BoneOut Straps. These features continue to be refined. The Freestyle Binding is now available in 4 sizes, the smallest, the XS, is specially-designed for kids, with a single strap that kids can operate without having to be embarrassed by asking their parents for help.

Having a boot and snowboard company under the same roof is a big advantage in developing bindings. Burton's 3D insert standard allows Burton bindings over 38 million stances on Burton snowboards, while maintaining complete compatibility with all 4x4 standard boards of other manufacturers. Burton also computer-designs the interior contours of their bindings around the exterior contours of their boots--not just for comfort and performance, but also for boot durability.

Because Burton is dedicated to all styles of riding, it is the source of binding performance categories you can't find anywhere else. The new Freeride Binding combines Skyback heelside support/response with the toeside comfort and response of a single, wide strap (rather than toe and ankle straps) with dual closures and a removable shin strap. In testing, the Freeride proved to be the ultimate cure for leg-burner runs through the trees.

Plate bindings also advance this season with three step-in models that do not require anything more than a standard snowboarding hard shell boot. The Race series of plate bindings, including the Step-In Race, Race Plate, and Carbon Race, all set the standard, with the lightest weight, shortest dimensions, and toughest construction.

Bindings are probably the most critical snowboarding component in all riding situations. This makes the fact that the top riders of the world trust Burton even more significant.
