Snow Park-Skate Park: 2 for 1 at Snow Valley,
CA If Mr. Rourke's show, "Fantasy Island," was still around instead of saying "Welcome to Fantasy Island," he would be saying "Welcome to Fantasy Mountain," to hundreds of skateboarders and snowshredders. Why? Because that's exactly what Southern California's Snow Valley Resort has turned into. November 9 marked the grand opening of "The Lot" at the new Snow Valley Mountain Sports Park. No, "The Lot" isn't a new parking lot, but the very first 15,000 square foot street course, vert ramp, and mini-ramp just walking steps from the slopes of Snow Valley. The price of a $34 dollar lift ticket for an adult or $5 dollars for a child 12 and under will get you access to "The Lot." Michael Gerard states, "Plans for having a separate skate park pass are in the making". Just think, you can double your fun with one ticket. The Lot was designed and built by Tim Payne and includes pressure treated wood with steel skin on it. This means it won't turn shitty after a couple of SoCal winter storms (they do exist). The Lot offers the old concept of snowboarding and skateboarding in the same day, but with the convenience of doing it within a few feet of each other. The fun didn't stop there! Bands, bands, and more bands for all the concert junkies. Along with the grand opening of "The Lot", there were some 'Rock the Casbah' performances from Voodoo Glow Skulls, Buck-O-Nine, The Joykiller, Home Grown, Jimmy Eat World(I hope he has a great diet plan), and The Line. Chakakahn! Also, the sticker hounds were in their full glory. In addition, to the bands and park, there were dozens of vendors, like Airwalk, 686 clothing, and Black Flys, tossing goodies out to the masses. Yahoo! This is only the beginning according to Michael Gerard, Snow Valley's director of marketing assured me. His plans for the season and seasons to come, are to have more events, more concerts, and to host snowboard and skateboard events. Where else in the country can you get a 2 for 1 deal like this? No where, Brah!
