(Press Release, December 16, 1988) It has just come to our attention that there is a potential safety problem with two adult model bindings in the 98-99 Elan Snowboards binding collection. During the last week, we have received several reports of base plate breakage in the Elan AD1 and Team Anatomical bindings. This condition could allow the boot to become loose in the binding or to detach from the binding altogether, which may result in injuries. To date, there have been no injuries reported to us. In light of the potential for injury, we have decided to recall all of these bindings immediately.
The bindings that are subject to this recall may be easily identified by the imprint of the model name, AD1 or Team Anatomical, on the packaging and by the black color of the baseplate. Other Elan models, including the Carbon and the JR1, are not subject to this recall notice.
If you have Elan AD1 or Team Anatomical bindings with black baseplates, we ask that you take the following steps immediately:
o 1. Stop using the bindings.
o 2. Remove the bindings from your board and return the bindings to the Elan Snowboard dealer from whom you purchased them. We will be sending replacement bindings to our dealers as quickly as possible.
o 3. If you are unable to return the bindings to your Elan Snowboard dealer, please call us at our toll-free number 1-800-950-8900. Once into our phone system, please dial "0" to be routed to the appropriate individual so that we may make arrangements for you to ship your bindings directly to us, freight collect, by Fed Ex, UPS or RPS. If you need to use this option, we will need to be notified of the dealer where you purchased the bindings.
We plan to begin shipping replacement bindings, which can be identified by the florescent "replacement binding" label on the binding box, as early as December 14.
Please understand that it may take as long as several weeks due to production limits. Please also understand that the supply of replacement bindings may be limited, and they will be sent out on a first-come, first-served basis. If we are unable to replace your bindings promptly, we will refund your purchase price.
