Jake Burton To Assume SIA Chairmanship
1/20/99
McLEAN, VA (January 20, 1999) - SnowSports Industries America
announced today that Jake Burton Carpenter, founder and CEO of Burton
Snowboards, Burlington, Vt., will assume the duties of SIA chairman
until the next SIA board elections held in March 1999. Carpenter will
replace Carl Helmetag, who resigned from the board upon his departure
from HEAD USA. SIA's governing by-laws require association officers
to be employed by an SIA member company. Carpenter will be the first
board chairman to represent the snowboarding base of the business.
"I feel privileged to be the first chairman of SIA from the
snowboarding side of the industry," said Carpenter. "Under the
leadership of David Ingemie, SIA has had a major influence in helping
snowboarding to attain the level of commercial success it enjoys
today."
Carpenter has served on the 23-member board of directors since 1992.
He was previously SIA's first vice-chairman. Carpenter explained
that he cannot hold the position permanently. "I just wish that
business and family commitments enabled me to hold the post for a
longer period of time," he noted.
Elections for next season's SIA board of directors will take place on
March 11, 1999, at the SIA Annual Meeting held during The Vegas Show
'99. The position of SIA chairman will be on the slate.
