PR: Peter Weaver Named President And CEO Of Marker International
10/1/98
SALT LAKE CITY--Oct. 1, 1998--Marker International's (Nasdaq: MRKR)
Chairman and acting CEO, John McMillian announced the appointment of
Peter Weaver as the new chief at Marker International. Effective October
8, 1998, Weaver will be responsible for the world-wide operations of this
ski industry company. Marker International is the parent of all Marker
subsidiaries, worldwide, including Marker USA, Marker Germany, Marker
Japan, Marker Canada and Marker Austria.
Weaver returns to Marker after leading Easton Technical Products for the
last seven years. As President of this leading sporting goods company, he
oversaw growth and development of the company in its archery and mountain
product lines. Previously, he was President of Marker USA and Managing
Director of Marker Germany.
Commenting on this new appointment, Weaver said, "I am pleased to accept
the challenge of returning to Marker. I do not underestimate the severity
of the financial difficulties arising from Marker s venture into the
snowboard business, however, we have a core business which is healthy and
which forms the basis for a strong company. We will quickly get back to
that core and do the right things for the market and the company. The
fact that there are many excellent people at the company and the product
line is outstanding will help us respond rapidly. Expect change from
Marker, but change that always respects what has made the company a
leader."
John McMillian, on behalf of the Board of Directors of Marker
International, mentioned the reasons for selecting Weaver, "The entire
board is enthusiastic about the experience Peter will bring to Marker. He
was in charge in Germany when the production facility was built and knows
the operation and personnel there as well as understanding the world-wide
ski market. This, plus his leadership position at Easton make him
uniquely prepared to lead Marker into the future. We are convinced that
his approach will be fresh and he will make the changes necessary to
strengthen the company."
Weaver holds an undergraduate degree from Amherst College and a graduate
degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He has over twenty five years
experience in the sporting goods industry.
Marker International, through its subsidiaries in the United States,
Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Austria, and Canada, is a leading designer,
manufacturer and marketer of alpine ski bindings and related products.
Marker Ltd., the Company's soft goods subsidiary designs, distributes,
and markets outerwear, luggage, and gloves.
