VAIL, Colo., Jan. 6 -- American Airlines today announced that it is
offering a special $98 companion ticket with the purchase of a qualifying
fare for vacationers traveling from San Francisco (SFO) to Vail/Eagle
County Airport (EGE). The companion ticket is available with the already
low $198 roundtrip, 14-day advance purchase ticket from the Bay Area to
the Vail Valley.
Travel under this special companion offer must be made before Feb. 14,
1999. The travel period for the 14-day advance purchase airfare is good
through March 28, 1999. In addition to the season kickoff airfare of
$198, the companion ticket offer also is available on other fares from
San Francisco to Vail/Eagle Country Airport. Restrictions apply.
"The special $98 companion ticket is just another way that American
Airlines is making it easier for vacationers from the Northwest to ski at
Vail and Beaver Creek," said Michael W. Gunn, American's senior vice
president of marketing. "This is a great way for skiers and snowboarders
to bring a friend when they hit the slopes."
"We're delighted that we've been able to work with American Airlines to
provide such great offers for Bay Area skiers to visit the Vail Valley
during the inaugural season of this flight," said Brad King,
transportation marketing manager for Vail Resorts. "A two-hour flight,
more than 6,300 acres of skiable terrain coupled with affordable airfares
makes flying to Vail and Beaver Creek an attractive alternative to skiing
in Northern California and Utah."
American began flying between San Francisco and Vail/Eagle County five
times a week on Dec. 19 (service will be offered four times per week Jan.
4- 30). The Wednesday-Sunday flight features 188-seat, Boeing 757
aircraft. San Francisco service operates seasonally through March 28,
1999.
Skiers and snowboarders can take advantage of these special airfares by
calling American Airlines reservations at 800-433-7300.
Discounts and lodging packages also are offered through the Vail Resorts
Web site at http://www.snow.com. New this season, skiers and
snowboarders will be able to book their vacation through Vail Resorts'
online reservations system. Travelers can choose their package and
receive an instant confirmation, revolutionizing the way vacations are
sold on the Web.
