the corner of 5th and Pacific Coast Highway as the backdrop for Jacks Garage Sk8 Demo and snowboard sale. The crew at Jack's knows how to put together a demo. Here's a lesson:
Some of the top snowboard manufacturers set up tents and displayed all of
their new toys for this upcoming winter. Representatives included Burton, K2, Forum, Division 23, Subtle, Westbeach, Airwalk, Northwave, Drake, Ride, Vans, Planet Earth, Flow Boots & Bindings, G-Shock, 5150, Quiksilver, Sims, Joyride, Santa Cruz, Haz-Mat, and more.
As the crowd rolled in, the bands and DJs fired up and the level of skating
raised a notch. A tight crew ruled the vert ramp and the crowd grew substantially (by days end the head count was over 3,000) for the final skate off. Sasha Steinhorst was the man on the mic, givin' the masses the verbalistics on the action. A 30-minute vert expression session with judging based on best trick awarded the winner 1,000 bucks!

Dealers set up tents to let the 3,000 plus attendees check out new products.

The roster of skaters included Chris Gentry with his lovely wife Ricca by
his side, Shaun White (the eleven-year-old wonder boy), Omar Hassan (who was celebrating his birthday but still had the professionalism to show up and skate, Kevin Rooks, Dave Duncan, and local favorite "Alabama" Billy.
The action got hot and heavy and it was too close to call who was gonna take
home the cake. But the crowd went silent as Billy, clad in all black, no pads, and no helmet droped in and threw a switch/back-flip raising his hands for the victory. He couldn't be denied, the cash was his!
Overall an exhausting day, but everyone left a little more stoked about
skating and snowboarding, which was the intention of this event.
