AST Press Release
North American Championships Will Wrap-Up Season

VAN NUYS, Calif. (Feb. 25, 1997) -- With only the North American Championships remaining on the Bud Light American Snowboard Tour schedule, the quest for a piece of the $27,000 Paul Mitchell Bonus Pool is up for grabs among the counrty's top snowboarders.

After the fourth event of the season at Snow Summit, Calif. standings have changed in only the freestyle category because Snow Summit held three freestyle events. Lisa Kosglow (Boise, Idaho) has clinched the Women's Paul Mitchell Rider's Cup Alpine title and an extra $3,000 for her sweep of all alpine events so far this season. Kosglow will go for an unprecented sixth straight alpine win at Mount Snow, Vt. March 14.

The Bud Light North American Championships will be held March 14-16 at Mount Snow, Vt. with a giant slalom (3-14) and two halfpipe competitions (3-15, 3-16).

Snow Summit Snowboard Cross
On what was the best course of the year thus far, Paul Henderson made fast tracks to take gold in the men's division. And as far as the pushing and shoving goes, Bjorn Leines, intentionally fouled? Maybe. Marguerite Cossettini who won on the snow laden course at Kirkwood again took top honors for the women. Your complete day three rundown.

Brushie Scrubs Back in Halfpipe Number 2
In halfpipe # 2, Brushie gained his second tour win of the season with a finals victory over Adam Petraska. Jamil Khan gained his second platform finish of the weekend after taking third in first halfpipe. Aurelie Sayres did it best for the women scoring her second victory of the season.

Snow Summit Halfpipe Numero Uno
Well the battle for the points lead we envisioned never materialized as Jeff Brushie was quickly eliminated from contention early on. Frank Wells soon followed. Unfazed by all the hype was JJ Thomas who cruised to his first victory on the AST. It was also the beginnings of what was to be a profitable weekend for both Jamil Khan and Trycia Byrnes as they would consistently put up the big numbers during the day. Get the full low down here and now.

Elder and Goulet Rule June Mountain Halfpipe
Freestyle action took over June Mountain Sunday. Every stop on the tour thus far has had a different winner and it happened again as  Elder and Goulet Rule the June Mountain Halfpipe. Should be an interesting fourth stage of the halfpipe now that Frank Wells has taken over the overall AST points lead from Jeff Brushie. We'll just have to wait and see what happens February 23 at Snow Summit.

Kosglow and Jensen Take Kirkwood Giant Slalom
Day One at Kirkwood ended the way most alpine events have so far this season. Colder temps, weary riders, and oh yeah, Lisa Kosglow atop the platform. She took her fourth gold of the season as Canadian Nelson Jenson claimed the men's top prize in the Giant Slalom.

Richards and Athena Win Kirkwood Halfpipe
Last year it was the Kirkwood half ditch. This year master shaper and second place finisher Frank Wells almost had it nailed down perfect. In the end, it was Todd Richards who walked away with the gold, even though he nearly missed out on his final run. DynoComm TV and some quick cash was all Todd needed make a protest and triumph.

Kirkwood 's Stormy BoarderCross
"There's really nothing there. It would be great if it was really difficult, but it's not. It's just a single track." descibed Jason Onley of Sunday's Snowy BoarderCross. Nearly ten inches fell up until racetime which slowed down the racing considerably. Still, Marguerite Cossettini and Dan Adams managed to find the best line on the way down and pick up the gold.

AST Kirkwood: Sound off on the Message Boards.

HP Brushie Smokes the Hunter Pipe
Jeff Brushie puffed away in the Hunter Mountain Halfpipe event. See how he did it and just why the awards presentation was the strangest we've seen in a while.

Hunter Mountain Pipe Dreams
When riders first arrived at Hunter Mountain the pipe they saw was probably the worst pipe built for a major competition. But Frank Wells showed up to fix all that. We're hoping he stays with the tour, in fact, someone should think about paying him <hint, hint>.

SL: Kosglow Sweeps, McClain Advances
Lisa Kosglow made it two in a row during the finals at the AST Hunter Mountain slalom when she defeated Paule Bertrand, And Travis 'The Kid" McClain moved right on up to the top step.

GS: Archibald and Kosglow Go Really Fast
The course was bumpier than a Andes mountain road, but that didn't slow Jeff Archibald and Lisa Kosglow down one bit.
